The Crassula ‘Surprise Party’ is a delightful succulent with a common name that perfectly captures its charm. This plant features fleshy leaves that come to pointed tips and are adorned with tiny “hairs,” giving them a shimmering silver sheen. Adding to its allure, the Surprise Party blooms for most of the year, displaying beautiful bell-shaped flowers with red-violet petals.
Growing up to 50 cm tall, this succulent has leaves that reach about 4 cm in length and 1 cm in width. While its exact origin is unknown, it is believed to be a hybrid involving Crassula mesembryanthemoides. The Surprise Party thrives in part to full sun and is best suited for the summer growing season.
When caring for this plant, it’s important to avoid excessive moisture. Ensure that it doesn’t sit in water for extended periods, especially if there’s a water catchment dish underneath the pot. Regularly empty the dish after a few minutes to prevent waterlogging. The Surprise Party can also be propagated from detached leaves, making it a fun plant to share and expand your collection.
With its silver sheen and vibrant red-violet flowers, the Crassula ‘Surprise Party’ is sure to add a touch of excitement and beauty to any succulent garden or indoor display.
