The so-called “Short Straps” Rhipsalis is one of many in the huge South American genus, and one of four subspecies of micrantha. This particular micrantha variety is distinct from its siblings thanks to wider leaves and deeper grooved margins. Otherwise, it is very similar, being a bushy, richly branching succulent, featuring flat to triangular olive green, scalloped stem segments, small yellow or white flowers, and little mistletoe-like berries, giving rise to another common name “Mistletoe Cactus”.
Its elegant form and flexible, wicker-like branches make it a popular choice for hanging baskets where stems cascade down over edges. An epiphytic, jungle cactus, this Rhipsalis likes an environment emulating its native rainforests. Filtered, dappled sunlight, warmth and some humidity will provide optimum growth. A daily misting of water is appreciated. Keep in rich, organic, well-draining soil.
