This perennial evergreen succulent is native to the mountains of central Europe and is considered an alpine or rock garden plant. Usually grown as a groundcover in gardens for its beautiful and unique foliage, the so-called “Roof Houseleek” is a mat-forming succulent which develops rubbery-looking rosettes of thick, fleshy, pointed leaves. Leaves are green but can have purple tips. On maturity, plants produce a strange-looking, thick flower stalk bearing showy, star-shaped mauve or red flowers on long stalks providing a burst of winter colour.

Low maintenance and easy to grow, this drought resistant plant enjoys a spot in full sun but will tolerate light shade. .Keep in sandy or gravelly soil and water moderately.
