The Agave lophantha quadricolor, also known as Quadricolor Agave, Thorncrest Century Plant, Centre Stripe Agave, Big Lechuguilla, or Quadricolor Century Plant, is a compact and visually appealing succulent. Its rosettes feature eye-catching striped leaves that transition from light green to dark green, then to creamy-yellow at the tips. The edges of the leaves are adorned with red-black teeth, adding to its striking appearance. This Agave typically grows to a height of around 40 cm, making it a perfect choice for ornamental purposes.
Similar to other succulents, the Quadricolor Agave produces offshoots or “pups” from the base of the plant, offering a continuous supply for other garden areas or for sharing with others.
During its blooming phase, this Agave sends up tall stems adorned with clusters of colorful and delicate flowers, spreading out across multiple stems.
Native to Mexico, the Quadricolor Agave thrives in hot and dry climates. In Australian gardens, this can be replicated by incorporating sand into a high-quality potting mix and allowing the plant to thoroughly dry out between waterings. It is highly drought-tolerant and prefers full sun exposure, requiring protection from frost during winter.
With its compact size and visually appealing foliage, the Agave lophantha quadricolor adds a touch of beauty and interest to succulent collections and garden landscapes.
