Native to South Africa, this small, highly decorative shrub reaches a height of around 30cm tall. Stems grow from a subterranean caudex and are multi-branching and blueish-grey or coppery green in colour. Prolific flowers are yellow (as with most Euphorbias) but larger than usual. Red thorns appearing in pairs give the plant a particularly unique look.
This Euphorbia is very easy care, even enjoying neglect. As long as it has well draining soil (it does not like wet feet), a position of sun to light shade, it will be happy. Unlike most succulents, however, it isn’t drought tolerant and will need weekly watering in summer, dryer at other times of the year. As with all Euphorbias, the sap is toxic so the plant must be handled with care.
NOTE: Euphorbia’s are for ornamental purposes only. The milky sap can be toxic and can cause adverse reactions if it comes into contact with the skin or eyes. Do not ingest. Euphorbias do not typically require pruning or maintenance, but take care when handling.
