It’s easy to see why this perennial succulent has been given the pretty common names Mini Moon Stones or Little Jewel—its leaves display a distinctive multi-coloured jewel pattern, which succulent collectors find irresistible. The plump, green or grey-based leaves are grape-sized and coated with a protective powder called farina. They can have orange, violent, red and pink accents depending on season and light conditions. Hugging the ground, dense rosettes are formed by the clusters of tightly branched leaves on short stems, with the plant growing equally in height and width, giving it a nice rounded compact shape.

Native to Mexico, this is a desert plant, it has low water needs and can handle strong heat and intense sunlight and can thrive in full sun or part shade. In full sun, leaves will show darker colours. Poor soil conditions are fine provided the container is well-draining. Can tolerate being underwatered, but overwatering is fatal. Grow in a mixed succulent container garden or place in a windowsill.
