Hailing from central Africa, the Sansevieria masoniana, also known as Mason’s Congo Paddle, is a stunning semi-succulent that’s often selected as a large houseplant. Its unique, paddle-shaped leaves are the standout feature of this plant, which can grow up to 1.5 meters tall and eventually form a loose, broad clump. The long, dark green leaves boast beautiful dappled patterns, with smudgy light green dots or unique bands of purple that add a touch of whimsy and charm.
The Sansevieria masoniana prefers moderately bright or filtered light but can also tolerate low light conditions. When exposed to bright light, the plant will develop a stalk of white flower clusters in the center, enhancing the vibrancy of its already impressive colors.
To keep this semi-succulent thriving, it’s important to water it deeply but infrequently, allowing the soil to dry out completely between waterings. This plant will do well in a window spot, where it can soak up plenty of natural light.
The Sansevieria masoniana is an extremely rare and highly sought-after succulent, and its unique appearance and low-maintenance requirements make it an excellent choice for plant lovers of all skill levels.
