Sedum makinoi ‘Ogon’, commonly known as ‘Ogon’, is a striking variety of the Sedum species, notable for its vibrant and colorful foliage. This succulent plant features small, round, fleshy leaves that are a bright, golden-yellow color, which can add a splash of brightness to any garden or container. The leaves are densely packed on short, trailing stems, forming a lush, low-growing mat.

Native to East Asia, ‘Ogon’ thrives in well-draining soil and prefers a sunny to partially shaded location. The bright yellow color of the foliage is most vibrant when the plant receives plenty of light. However, it’s important to protect the plant from the harsh afternoon sun to prevent scorching the leaves.

‘Ogon’ is a drought-tolerant plant, making it an excellent choice for rock gardens, green roofs, or as a ground cover in dry, challenging environments. It requires minimal watering, and overwatering should be avoided to prevent root rot.

In the summer, Sedum makinoi ‘Ogon’ may produce small, star-shaped white or pale pink flowers that contrast beautifully with its bright foliage. These flowers can attract pollinators like bees and butterflies.

As with many sedums, ‘Ogon’ is considered non-toxic and is generally safe around pets and children. However, it’s always a good practice to place plants out of reach to prevent any accidental ingestion. Its striking color and easy-care nature make Sedum makinoi ‘Ogon’ a popular choice for adding a touch of brightness to gardens, patios, and indoor plant collections.
