Crassula ovata ‘Hobbit’ is a captivating succulent plant with a distinct appearance. This cultivar is characterized by its tubular, curled green leaves that resemble the curled toes of J.R.R. Tolkien’s Hobbit characters, hence its name. Each leaf forms a nearly complete circle, with the tip slightly pinched together.

Endemic to South Africa, ‘Hobbit’ is a variation of the jade plant, typically growing between 2-3 feet tall. It has a compact, shrubby form and can produce small, star-shaped, pinkish-white flowers under optimal conditions, usually in the cooler months.

The plant is favored for its low-maintenance nature and unique leaf shape. It’s often used as a decorative piece in homes, gardens, and offices. It thrives in well-draining soil and prefers bright indirect light. Caution should be taken, as like other Crassula species, ‘Hobbit’ can be toxic if ingested, making it essential to keep it away from pets and children.
