This gorgeous, undemanding houseplant is native to the Cape of Good Hope in South Africa. A small, bulbous perennial, its name hints at “paucity” which relates to its lack of flowers. Instead, it features purple, glossy, teardrop-shaped clustering bulbs, with pale green leaves that have dark green splotches on them.

A great indoor plant, it can handle full sun to partial shade and is a perfect windowsill dweller. Regular watering, allowing it to dry completely between waterings, and a well-draining soil mix will allow this plant to thrive. Note that all parts of this plant are poisonous if ingested.
