This fiery-looking Euphorbia is a stunning evergreen succulent shrub which forms a thicket of vivid, loosely branching vertical stems which has been said to resemble sea coral. An evergreen growing up to 2.5m tall and wide, it produces showy flowers but its most attractive feature is its many thin stems which are reddish-gold at tips and will change colour depending on the season, from yellow to red.
Used in landscaping to add dramatic colour bursts and height to beds and borders, it is also successful in containers. A very resilient plant, it is easy to grow. Quite self sufficient once established, well-draining soil and plenty of sunshine. Euphorbias are typically native to tropical and subtropical Africa and Madagascar, but this particular one is a nursery-produced cultivar.
Commonly called Fire Sticks, Sticks on Fire, Sticks of Fire and Red Pencil Tree.
NOTE: Euphorbia’s are for ornamental purposes only. The milky sap can be toxic and can cause adverse reactions if it comes into contact with the skin or eyes. Do not ingest. Euphorbias do not typically require pruning or maintenance, but take care when handling.
