One of the smallest of the Gasterias, whose genus name derives from the Latin for stomach, referring to the shape of the flowers. Quite rare, this miniature perennial succulent has dark green leaves covered in mottled cream spots which form rosettes of just 2.5cm tall. Stems rise up to about 10cm and hold the tiny, tubular, bi-coloured (reddish-pink and green) stomach-shaped flowers. A slow growing compact shrub forming succulent, it is native to South Africa.

Like all Gasterias, it is easy care and thrives in cultivation ,whether indoor or outdoor. Makes a perfect windowsill potplant, or as a citizen of a miniature succulent garden where they cheerily coexist with other small succulents. Preferring light to dappled shade, it is tolerant of all kinds of soil and just needs regular minimal watering.
