These attractive succulents are related to aloe, with around 20 species native to southern Africa. A small perennial shade-loving succulent with dark green leaves covered in small lumpy white dots, and featuring pretty arching wands of bell-shaped tubular green and orange flowers. Growing between 5cm and 40cm high and wide, this gasteria is very well suited to containers and succulent gardens but is also perfect for dry, shady areas of your yard. Dune Gasteria has very high heat tolerance and placed in full sun, leaves will darken to a deep rust red. Its flowers will attract pollinating birds and insects.

Very low maintenance, needing only moderate watering, well draining soil, and occasional removal of dead flower spikes. Leaves are not armoured/thorny, so they suit placement in areas with foot traffic. However, leaves do break off easily so the plant shouldn’t be bumped too much.
