The Crown of Thorns plant, also known as Euphorbia millii ‘small dark pink’, is a species of evergreen Madagascan spurges that is regarded as being the “true” Crown of Thorns. According to legend, it is the plant from which Jesus Christ’s crown of thorns was made. This plant has bright green, leathery foliage and grey stems, and its vivid red flowers bloom all year round but are most showy in the springtime.

This plant makes a beautiful potted plant and is also valued for its burst of color when planted in beds and borders in the garden. It is very easy to care for, needing only minimal water and well-drained soil, and will thrive in full sun to part shade. However, it is important to note that the latex sap of all euphorbias is an irritant to skin and eyes, so handle with care. The plant is also poisonous if ingested, so keep away from pets and children.

Please remember that Euphorbia’s are for ornamental purposes only. The milky sap can be toxic and can cause adverse reactions if it comes into contact with the skin or eyes. Do not ingest. Euphorbias do not typically require pruning or maintenance, but take care when handling.
