The species of Madagascan spurge called E. milii is regarded as the “true” Crown of Thorns, so named because it is said that Jesus Christ’s crown of thorns was made from the stems of this plant. A dense sprawling shrub up to a metre tall, it has clusters of bright green, elliptical leaves and tiny, showy pale pink flowers.

Great for edging in beds and borders as well as hedges and screens, but also makes a gorgeous container plant. Low maintenance, this spurge has low water needs provided it is planted in well-drained soil and receives a lot of sun.

NOTE: Euphorbia’s are for ornamental purposes only. The milky sap can be toxic and can cause adverse reactions if it comes into contact with the skin or eyes. Do not ingest. Euphorbias do not typically require pruning or maintenance, but take care when handling.
