Lobivia is now known as Echinopsis, but many people still prefer to use the old name. It features 128 species of plant, from large trees to tiny, flat globous cacti. Clumping, with a dark chocolate colour, the arachnacantha variety takes its name from the Greek for “spider web shaped thorns”, descriptive of the appearance of this plant. However, it is also colloquially known as Hedgehog cactus, Sea-urchin cactus, Easter lily cactus and Peanut cactus.
Free-flowering and clustering to form clumps, the plant produces huge, showy flowers in golden yellow to orange hues. Native to South America, these succulents are a great beginner cactus, being easy to grow and hardy. Place in full sun to partial shade and don’t overwater.
