Popular for its geometric, traditional cactus-like appearance, this south American native has about 50 species in its family ranging from tiny globose plants to columnar cacti. Always heavily ribbed, it is a blue-green globular woolly cactus growing in clusters, with hairy, spiny stems and brilliant yellow funnel-shaped flowers at or near the crown. The plant’s visual appeal is further enhanced by the glistening haze created by its distinctive pale yellow spines.

Often grown inside, these attractive clump formers also thrive outdoors where they are ideal for dry or gravel gardens but can also be grown in pots which can be moved indoors over winter. Appreciates a sunny spot with a little shade and aside from regular watering, requires no maintenance.
