The Hoya genus has around 200 species with seven occurring right here in Australia, including the aptly named Hoya Australis, which is known as “Common Waxflower” or “Waxvine”. An aromatic indoor climbing plant with succulent foliage, its leaves are thick and nearly round, growing around 9cm wide. A slow grower, it is resilient and easy to cultivate. Quite a spectacular specimen, it is best described as an understory creeper, and works well in hanging baskets or containers as it tolerates root constraint well.

Does not require especially fertile soil but ensure good drainage. Enjoys a shady, protected spot, but its fragrant white blooms will flower best in bright light. Drought tolerant but sensitive to cold weather.
